TaeKwonDo is modern
martial art from Korea. Many archeological findings
and other historic monuments of which some are
more than 2000 years old testify that martial
arts in this country have remarkably long tradition.
Therefore, it is enough to mention wall paintings
from Koguryo dynasty crypts, where you can see
barehanded fighters in specific pose, and also
two famous pieces on Sokkuram cave entrance near
Kyungju town, performing double block "keumgang
makki" used in TaeKwonDo nowadays.
Although originating from traditional martial
arts which have been practiced for centuries (Hwarangdo,
Taekyon, Subak etc. - there are 31), TaeKwonDo
was created after WW2 on South Korea government
initiative which gathered heads of the most popular
martial arts, but also historians, linguists,
philosophers etc.
TaeKwonDo is well known by excellent kicking technique
and frequent flying kicks, which distinguishes
it from Karate and other similar sports.
In Serbia and Montenegro TaeKwonDo is practiced
since 1979. Today, there are almost 50 clubs and
state, republic and other championships are maintained
regularly. |
